107th St. Pier, 1991
Percent for Art Program NYC

107th St. Pier, originally a commercial pier, protruded into the east river, adjacent to Spanish Harlem in Manhattan. Using the template of the existing structure, the renovation attempted to re-attach the pier to the neighborhood , by highlighting the urban map onto its surfaces, and altering elements of its structure to emphasize its unique location. As a recreational pier, it gave the city access to the water, and an open space for the community. (in cooperation with Sultan/Cavalieri Architects)
